The Post-Graduation Work Permit allows students who have graduated from eligible Canadian designated learning institutions (DLIs) to obtain an open work permit to gain valuable Canadian work experience. Skilled Canadian work experience in ‘In Demand Occupation list of Alberta and NOC skill type 0 or skill level A or B that is gained through the PGWP helps graduates qualify for permanent residence in Canada through the Express Entry under Alberta Provincial Nominee Program. 

PGWP is an open work permit and does not require job offer. Spouses of Work permit holders or students are also eligible for open work permit. 

PGWP holders can apply for Permanent Residence in Alberta under AINP, after completion of their studies and obtaining Job offer relating to their education as per In-demand Occupation list. The nomination can be applied after 6 months of work experience in Alberta for students who have completed their education in Alberta. To be eligible, students can work in NOC A, B or C for 6 months.

To apply for LMIA based work permit, applicant must get job offer from an eligible employer.
